Escaping Dr. Seuss’ Waiting Place. Tips for Getting Unstuck.

An oldie, but goodie repost from 2014.

Dr. Seuss in Oh, the Places You’ll Go! introduces us to the “most useless” Waiting Place where “everyone is just waiting.” And what is it that people are waiting for?

Well, for just about everything; “…for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow..”

The author notes that what leads us to this place is having had gone through a “hang up” when we went through an experience that was not what we would have wished. As a result, we find ourselves feeling down, confused and faced with a difficult task. “When you’re in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.”

Getting un-slumped can seem daunting. Feeling like we do not know what to do or how to find the energy to make a change can lead us to a place where we do nothing.

We run ourselves ragged thinking about what to do. We question our ability to make a “right” decision, and ultimately we find ourselves drained and resigned to staying where we are. This is the Waiting Place. Basically, we put off our life and come up with excuses to justify settling for less.

“NO!
That’s not for you!
Somehow you’ll escape all that waiting and staying. You’ll find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing.”

Dr. Seuss calls to the higher self in us who is courageous and unstoppable. He summons us to escape from a life of mediocrity and really live!

Tips for escaping the Waiting Place:

1. Acknowledge where you are, without judgment.
2. Decide that you no longer want to live here.
3. Give yourself permission to believe that it is possible to live more joyfully engaged.
4. Choose one aspect or area of your life that you will embrace more fully.
4. Decide on one or two doable, yet impactful action steps that will support your intention.
5. Make a decision to take these steps, even at times when you don’t feel like doing so.
6. Tell someone you trust, and ask for support in your process.

“And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed).”
